I am a single mother who is on a limited budget and a growing toddler who has no clue of what a budget is! My mother gave me a wonderful idea of using SashaMichelle's winter clothes and creating summer items!

Summer Summer Summer Time....

Summer is Here, well it is in Nashville :) This time of year I love to wear skirts and dresses and I found this beautiful pattern and needed it in my life! I have been experimenting with prints as of late and found this wonderful print from Jo-Ann's Fabric. I bought the last 3 yards so I believe a tank top or skirt will be made from this print as well.

View D for pattern M6752 was used in creating this dress but I wanted to alter the hem length and added 3" to make this dress a bit more work appropriate but I completely forgot to, next time I will.

I got to wear this pretty little number for my 1 year anniversary! I hope you enjoy.

Kwik Sew

Let It Flow

If you are like me you find something (shoes, tops, pants, etc.) and need that found item in several different colors. I found this pattern Kwik Sew for a tank top which looked incredibly easy and could go from the office to a night out.You will be seeing this tank in many variations!

I made this a two tone tank without the pocket. I used black lace on top of the black fabric jersey to give a little spice to it.

I will update with a picture with how I styled this tunic tank soon, so stay tuned :)

Wide Leg Trouser

On The Wide Side

The project for this week will be wide leg trousers from a great sateen fabric like this, with an elastic waistband. The pattern will be created from a pair of pants that I already own. This will be the second time I've made pants similar to these. The first pair I made was from a hunter green full size flat sheet - yes I said sheet - and they came out beautifully. The only thing that I didn't realize was, because the fabric was 100%  cotton there was NO stretch. By the end of the day, they became incredibly uncomfortable, and I was afraid I was going to bust a seam!

I then went on the hunt to make wide leg pants that I could wear all day and bend over without embarrassing myself! I started to look at pants that I liked from famous retailers like this, and looked to see what the material blends were. Majority of the pants we buy now are 95% Cotton and 5% Lyrca. I then went on the hunt for this fabric and found myself at Jo-Ann's Fabric (I often find myself there).

Tell me what you think!

After wearing these pants to work, I soon found out that the fabric wrinkled horribly from the waist to the crotch after sitting down. Also, because there was a little bit of stretch the pants did not fit at the waist as tight as needed. I believe these pants will become pencil style trousers. That project will be added soon!

Kimono

Tribal Kimono Cardigan

This week I took on a fun project and decided to make a Kimono cardigan jacket thing. I was on pinterest and I came across this beautiful cardigan. I then realized I needed this immediately. I had this tribal print fabric that I was itching to use and decided that this would be perfect for it.

I also made a blank tank dress from McCalls M6886 View D. I have made View B and E before so this dress was very easy and simple to make. I did find an awesome stitch on my sewing machine that helped me create a perfect inseam in half the time!

I hope you enjoy!

Satin Print

As I turn the corner into the parking lot at my job... Turn off the radio, check, roll up the window, turn the car off, check, grab purse and lunch bag, check. Oh SashaMichelle's cup, still has juice, (I'll put it in my cooler for later), check, Id badge, Check.

Walking towards the building on a beautiful sunny day I am eternally grateful for waking up. As I pass security I realized, I have SashaMichelle's Sippy cup instead of my cup of coffee! What a way to start my Friday morning!

Let's rewind to about 6:00 am. I snooze my alarm way too many times and finally roll out of bed at 6:15 am, as soon as my feet hit the ground I hear "Mommy, I have booboos!" SashaMichelle is up and at it. We are potty training so I ask if she wants to sit on the potty. She obliges but already took care of business in her diaper :( It's a process I know...

Fast forward to 7:30 am I am finally on the road but know that I will be pushing it to make it on time, we are supposed to leave the house by 7:15 am! Luckily I get to SashaMichelle's daycare by 8:10 am and fly over to my office (thank God I am only 8 minutes from her daycare). I like to blame the Sippy Cup situation on my mommy brain but it was purely racing to get to work on time. After having to walk back to the car and get my coffee, I was still on time! Yay go me :) LOL

Fashion Creation of the Week

This week my project was to make a funky print (satin) top to wear with just about anything. I used New Look 0907 and it came out much better than I could have anticipated. I am a novice so anything I do now is pretty much my first time. I used bias tape for the first time and messed up so I had to cut the collar twice. I plan on making this shirt again and using the bias tape correctly but making a few alterations to the pattern. I will upload the second top as soon as I finish it.

I plan on creating 1-2 projects per week. That's a lot for me but having this blog will help me discover more and get better and better!

This is very new to me so please bear with me. I would appreciate any suggestions.
